Reducing barriers to workforce reentry

Nov 7, 2017

“I’m trying to break down the stereotypes and show people the humanistic side. Inmates are just people who have made mistakes and paid our dues.” This is the message Coss Marte shared in his talk at Johnson State College last week.

Like Marte, we at Lamoille Resorative Center (LRC), understand the challenges inmates face when reentering the community and workforce. Through our reentry program, individuals are supported through Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) as they reintegrate into the community and workforce. The aim is to support these folks as they transition back into the community by addressing the issues that most often present barriers for their success; transportation, housing and employment. Weekly meetings and daily check-in with case managers Erin Whitcomb and John Strout provide the extra ” hand holding that other agencies                                                                                                                                             may not be able to offer, to help people get back on their feet” says                                                                                                                                                                           Bobby Blanchard-Lewis, Director of Reentry Services at Lamoille Restorative                                                                                                                                                  Center.
